CANDID
JOURNALIST

The first issue of Marmik, a cartoon weekly, was launched on August 13, 1960.

It was a medium to connect Balasaheb, the cartoonist, and Shivsena Chief, with the common man.

Marmik was instrumental in the formation and growth of Shivsena.

As a political mouthpiece, Marmik gave voice to the suppressed and depressed Marathi man and helped in establishing his identity.

On January 23, 1989, Balasaheb Thackeray launched Saamana, a fiery newspaper and the only Marathi daily to endorse the feeling of flaming Hindutva.

Saamana became a symbol of aggression for the rights of Maharashtrians and Hindus.

Shivsena leader Shri. Subhash Desai carried out all major tasks of launching Saamana with great skill and diligence.

Through Saamana, Balasaheb and his thoughts started reaching the households of crores of Marathi people every day.

EDITORIALS

Being an editor of 'Marmik' weekly and Daily 'Saamana', Balasaheb developed a deep, comprehensive understanding of his class of readers, what message he wanted to convey to them and what impact it would create on the minds of his readers. His editorials being thought-provoking could arouse the readers and encouraged Marathi men to fight for their pride and identity. His editorials strongly advocated and supported the Hindu Nationalist Agenda.

Till the age of 75, he used to write or dictate the editorials of Marmik and Saamana. His conversant style of writing used to touch the minds of readers and could create a cherished impact. Without minding his opponents, he used to state his beliefs and opinions in a strong and emphatic manner, rightfully personifying honest journalism.
